Security measures to beef up, 1020 company forces to be deployed in 7th phase polling
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been meeting with various opposition leaders in recent days, leading to speculations that she may form a third front with non-BJP and non-Congress parties ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
On Friday last week, Banerjee met with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav in Kolkata. She also met with Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday of this week and is scheduled to meet with former Karnataka Chief Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy today.
According to sources, Kumaraswamy may invite Banerjee to campaign for the upcoming assembly elections in Karnataka. The Congress and Kumaraswamy's Janata Dal (Secular) have come together to oust the ruling BJP in the state, but are fighting separately in the upcoming elections. Kumaraswamy's father, former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, played an important role in the formation of the Third Front in the 90s.
Banerjee has been meeting with regional parties that are equidistant from the Congress and the BJP, urging them to unite ahead of the 2024 elections. Her recent meetings with opposition leaders are seen as significant in national politics, raising speculation that she may form a third front.
